Memento Poster
This poster was a class project from Adv. Illustration. We were instructed to get our inspiration from famous Polish posters which are known for their highly conceptual imagery. To create the base for the poster I painted thin tracing paper onto a thick paper board for a wrinkled effect, afterwords, I applied india ink and drew the final layer with chalk pastels. The poster design has several concepts that reference the film’s plot. See below for conceptual explanation.
[Spoiler Alert] The falling dominoes make several references to the movie’s plot: a) The backwards sequence of the movie is represented by the right-to-left motion, which is perceived as backwards by a Western audience due to our left-to-right writing style. b) The movie flips the sequence of cause-and-effect by showing the audience the effects first, likewise, the effects of the falling dominoes are seen before the cause, a gunshot. c) The last major reference is that the main character (seen far left) who is reaching out of the frame (reaching for justice) is also the culprit whose arm enters the right frame, although he doesn’t know it himself.
